Wings

I didn't have a lot of time today, but I got started on the aileron bellcranks. You'll see more details in a day or two about how they work. But the first task is to work on these bushings. They're brass tubes that go inside the hollow bellcranks. They will act as rotating shafts, or bearings, as the ailerons move. A long bolt will go through this bushing. So two things need to be done to it. It needs to be cleaned up, or polished on the outside. And the inside needs to be reamed out so that the bolt will fit and pass through it.

I measured carefully to make sure it was the exact length needed, then went to work to clean it up. It was super easy on my fine scotchbrite wheel. The one above is half finished, so you can see how well it polished up on the wheel. Below, they are both finished. You can also see at the top of the photo the end of the bellcrank, and the hole that this bushing will push into. A thin layer of grease will make for a very smooth bearing.

A final check insured that they fit and work well. Next, I will ream out the insides large enough for the bolts to pass through.
