Priming and riveting - 3.0 hrs.

We got a nice break in the weather today, and I found some time to take all these parts outside for priming. I primed all the seat ribs, the crotch strap brackets, the little straps and most of the baggage ribs before running out of paint. Dang it! I'm going to have to go get more, but the stores are closed tonight. Continuing on... I was able to get the nutplates riveted on all the seat ribs and the two baggage ribs for the center of the baggage area.

UPDATE: I have since learned that I shouldn't have riveted the nutplates on the baggage ribs. They get riveted on after the baggage floor goes in, so the nutplate rivets go through not only the ribs, but the floor as well. They are there for a cover plate that goes over the central tunnel that carries the pushtube for the elevators. So anyway, I drilled out 20 rivets to get the 10 nutplates off.

Now I'm questioning whether or not to make my baggage floor removeable. Some builders put the strobe power unit for the lights under the baggage floor. Some builders also put the ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitter) under the baggage floor, too, or just use the extra space for storage. I'm going to have to research this and think it through carefully before finishing up the baggage area. Now would be the optimum time to install nutplates if I want to make the floor removeable. It's more work, but it may be worth it in the long run.
