1944-45 Portland Eagles team signed photo (This was the Eagles inaugural season. The photo is signed by the following - Coach Jimmy Ward, Eddie Shamlock, Alfred "Red" Carr, Andre Bouvrette, Bobby Morin, Art Schumann, John Milliard, Joe Conn, Aubrey "Babe" Webster, Jerry Fodey, Jim Planche, Joe Howe, Bill Ernie, Phil Dalgleish, Walt MCcartney). 1914 Portland Ice Hippodrome Stock Certificate issued in order to raise funds for the building.

Did you know that Portland Oregon is the home to the 1st professional hockey team in the Unites States?

In the summer of 1913, an Oregonian advertisement proclaimed plans of a group of Canadians preparing to build an indoor ice arena called the Ice Hippodrome. After the success of their ice-skating facilities in various Canadian cities, they were in town to erect a rink that would be among the largest in the world. Portland Buckaroos
The site dedicated to the Portland Buckaroos, "Kings of the Road" and one of the winningest teams in all of professional hockey. From 1960-1974 the Buckaroos won more games than any other team in professional hockey, including the Montreal Canadiens. The city of Portland embraced the team and the players, and it was love affair that would continue for 14 years. The Memorial Coliseum, "The Glass Palace" was the place to be on Saturday Nights. Art Jones, Connie Madigan, Bill Saunders, Jack Bionda, Don Head, Dave Kelly, Norm Johnson and are not only Buckaroo legends, but legends in the Western Hockey League. This site is dedicated to them and is intended to keep their memory and the history of the Buckaroos alive.

Bill Saunders Vintage Hockey Trophy Collection
Bill Saunders has graciously donated his 200th WHL Goal trophy; 300th WHL goal trophy; 400th WHL goal trophy; 1969 WHL All-Star Trophy; 1967 Portland Buckaroos Most Popular Player Trophy and his 1967 Sportsmanship Trophy to this site, in order to allow Portland Buckaroo and other hockey fans to view them. 2/05/2010 Portland Winter Hawks salute the Buckaroos
This salute to the Buckaroos was the 4th Reunion hosted by the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The event took place on Friday, February 5, 2010 and marked the 2nd largest gathering of the old Buckaroo players and was made extra special by the fact that they were reunited with the Lester Patrick Cup for the first time since they won their last WHL Championship in 1971. The Cup was escorted from Toronto by Izak Westgate, Manager of Exhibit Development and Assistant Curator for the HHOF. The highlight of the evening was the presentation on-ice of the Lester Patrick Cup to the Portland Players in attendance. The fans gave them a standing ovation and it was a sight to see.
