CHILDREN’S THEATER

NEP Children’s theater

North End Players is proud to provide classes in Children’s Theatre. We run three classes per year: Fall, Winter & Spring.

Classes run one day a week for eight weeks.  At the end of their clases , the children will perform at a recital highlighting the work they have accomplished during their 12 hours of class time. Our classes put the children on stage immediately. Classes have typically run from 4:00PM to 5:30PM at The Bert Mann Theater.

Some scholarship assistance may be available upon request and eligibility. As our scholarship is funded by donors, the number of scholarships from year to year varies on the generosity of our donors.

“My granddaughter attends this class and loves it. She is learning the art of the theatre through performing and thus learns to act from the heart. She is learning the technical aspects of theatre movement as well.”

                Sally Skelding

Our instructor is a Waldorf-trained educator who currently teaches at the Waldorf Charter School in North Portland.

Ruthanne Kendrick-Noll - Children’s Theater Instructor

Ruthanne was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. Her love of theatre blossomed in high school as she participated in all the school plays. She was accepted into Auburn University’s theatre program and studied acting there for two years. She graduated from University of Alabama in Birmingham with a BA in English Literature, minor in Art History. Ruthanne then turned her attention to raising her two children and became interested in education. Finding a cohesive fit with Waldorf education, Ruthanne moved with her family from the deep south to Eugene, OR where she pursued a teaching certificate in Waldorf Education. Part of that program included participating in a play and the theatre candle was once again lit inside her. Upon moving to Portland three years later, she began teaching theatre camps in the summer for grade school children. She adored combining her love of theatre and teaching.

Since then, Ruthanne has taught children’s theatre classes at the Portland Village School where she works as a kindergarten teacher and more recently at St. Andrew’s on North End Player’s stage. Her classes for children are held in trimesters: September-November; January-March; April-June.
