"Way back in 1910, J.T. Eggleston (Pennine) ...
had the famous pointer "Broomhill Dan"
in his kennels. ... He was exported to America and at the age of nine
years he mated a bitch named "Nell's Queen Cott", a mating which
was destined to produce "Becky Broomhill". She went down in history
as one of the most outstanding figures ever seen at field trials."
-- Edmondson & Robertshaw, 1978
""Becky Broom Hill" had her moments. She did not have the lofty air and grand style of
"Mary Montrose", but at times performed faultlessly and in a manner that won her
deserved fame. Becky's winning record is extensive and all of the victories were scored
in major competition. At the time of her retirement by her owner, Louis Lee Haggin
of Mount Brilliant Farms, Lexington, Ky., "Becky Broom Hill" had achieved the then
unparalleled record of thirty-four wins! ...
Under the tutelage of Chesley H. Harris, who handled "Becky"
from the start of her field trial career until she was retired from active
competition, not a single year passed that "Becky Broom Hill's" name
was not among the winners of record, that another place was not added to her
phenomenal list! ... a great win of the National Championship crown in 1922 ...
her second win of the National Championship in January of 1923 ...
Came the National Championship of 1925 and "Becky Broom Hill" was as ready
as human hands could make her. ... With a meritorious performance -
perhaps not spectacular, but an honest, industrious and effective race -
"Becky Broom Hill" wrested the title from a field of twenty and emblazoned
her name in the field of trial archives, ever to remain a shining light
in pointer and setter annals.
