If you are connected to the Internet through MSN, the Microsoft Network, and you attempt to send messages by using an account other than your MSN e-mail account, you receive a prompt for your logon credentials for the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) e-mail server. If you click the OK
button, you receive the logon prompt again. If you click Cancel
, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
Task '<SMTP server name> - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80042109): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
