Newsgroup Changes
2008-03-25Attention Newsgroup users,
On March 31, 2008, newsgroup header numbering will be reset to match that of our new backend services. On that date, you will be able to easily make this transition by simply purging and reloading the headers of the subscribed newsgroups in your news client. Instructions for conducting this action in various news clients are included at the end of this message. If your preferred client is not included, please refer to the specific help documentation for the client. Below are the steps necessary to purge and reload newsgroup headers in news clients.
Best Regards,
Infinity Internet Support
-----------
NewsBin Pro:
1. Select all newsgroups you are subscribed to. To select all newsgroups, click on the first group then hold the shift key and click on the last group.
2. From the Groups menu, select "Post Storage", then "Delete Stored Posts".
3. Download headers again. For large binary newsgroups, this may take a long time. To limit the headers, right-click on the newsgroup name and select "Download Special".
----------
NewsLeecher:
1. Select all newsgroups you are subscribed to. To select all newsgroups, click on the first group then hold the shift key and click on the last group.
2. Right-click on the selected newsgroups. From the popup menu, click "Selected: Purge Group".
3. Download headers again. For large binary newsgroups, this may take a long time. To limit the headers, right-click on the newsgroup name, select "Update" and choose the number of headers you would like.
----------
Thunderbird and Outlook Express:
Because these are primarily email clients, there is no way to purge headers. You will need to remove your current server, create a new server for Infinity News, download the list of available newsgroups, and re-subscribe to your desired newsgroups.
----------
Forte Agent:
1. Select the folder containing your newsgroups, right-click and select "Purge".
2. Download headers again. For large binary newsgroups, this may take a long time.
Dialup Number Changes
2007-10-23Effective immediately, customers in some of our dialup areas will be required to change their current settings in order to avoid services disruption. All customers who will need to change their dialup settings have been emailed today, 10/23/2007.
This change is necessary due to a legal dispute involving a vendor that Infinity uses to provide dialup access, the Oregon Public Utilities Commission (“PUC”), and Qwest. We were recently apprised of the situation, and despite our best efforts to intervene at the last moment, the PUC has taken action against our vendor. Such action, unfortunately, caught us by surprise and was completely outside of our control.
Rest assured, nothing has changed with your account (only the phone number that you need to call into in order to access the Internet). You will continue to receive the same level of service and technical support from us!
If you are able to change your dialup number without calling Technical Support we would greatly appreciate it. We anticipate that many people will require assistance and are therefore expecting high call volumes over the next few weeks. While we have increased staffing in our technical support department during this time, we still expect hold times to be higher than normal.
Here are some instructions to help make this change go a little smoother.
The easiest way to change your number is by simply downloading the Infinity Dialup Wizard at http://www.iinet.com/dialup/. The wizard will automatically walk you through the necessary steps.
You can also manually change your dialup number by following the instructions below. We do, however, encourage our customers to spend a few minutes downloading and installing our dialup wizard as this will greatly speed up the process.
Please use the link directly below this paragraph to insure your username is correctly formatted. When the link opens, please select your operating system. Under the heading "How to configure your system" click on "Username Change". The prompts will lead you through the process of changing your username so that it is your full e-mail address.

Please remember that when you connect to the Internet, you need to make sure your login name or username is your full e-mail address.
Example: Instead of "yourusername", it would be "yourusername@pacifier.com".
Again, if you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us via phone, chat, or email at support@iinet.com
Thank you for your continued patronage!

End of support for Windows 98 and Windows Me
2007-03-30April 1, 2007 will bring a close to Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me as part of the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy. Infinity Internet will retire technical support by this date.
Existing support documents and content, however, will continue to be available online at support.iinet.com. This Web site will continue to host a wealth of previous How-to, Troubleshooting, and Configuration content for anyone who may need self-service.
Microsoft has retiring support for these products because they are outdated and can expose customers to security risks. We recommend that customers, who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system, such as Windows XP, as soon as possible. Customers who upgrade to Windows XP report improved security, richer functionality, and increased productivity.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Technical support at 800-689-4303 option 3. Or e-mail us here.
