Internet filtering that's accurate
Internet filtering blocks access to certain material found on websites. It is commonly used to prevent children from viewing inappropriate content, or to promote employee productivity. Infinity Internet has partnered with n2h2 to offer the BESS filtering technology to our customers who wish to remove objectionable material from their Internet experience.
BESS is an extremely accurate filtering system because it does not rely upon the automatic keyword searches that most filtering services use. Instead, a full-time team of employees is dedicated to visiting and viewing sites to determine if they are inappropriate and should be blocked. Sites that contain the following type of content are blocked by BESS:
Sites labeled as Adults Only: Any website which has been labeled by its author as being for adults. This also includes "You must be 18 to visit this site", "You must be of legal drinking age to visit this site", etc.
Hate/Discrimination: Advocating discrimination against others based on race, religion, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation.
Illegal: Any sites which advocate, promote, or give advice on carrying out acts widely considered illegal. This includes lock-picking, bomb-making, fraud, breaching computer security, phone service theft, pirating software, or evading law enforcement.
Pornography: Material intended to be sexually arousing or erotic.
Violence: Sites that contain graphic images or descriptions of wanton violence. Includes graphically violent games.
Alcohol: Sites that advocate or promote the recreational use of alcohol.
Drugs: Sites that promote or advocate the recreational use of any controlled substance.
Tasteless/Gross: This includes things such as bodily functions, tasteless humor, graphic medical photos, and some forms of body modification (cutting, branding, genital piercing, etc).
Profanity: Sites using crude, vulgar, or obscene language or gestures.
Murder/Suicide: Sites with information about committing murders or suicide.
Free E-Mail: By blocking sites that allow free, uncontrolled e-mail accounts, children will not be able to bypass the filtering by using e-mail to gain access to questionable material.
School Cheating Information: Sites which promote or distribute information for the purpose of academic cheating or plagarism.
Tobacco: Sites promoting the recreational use of tobacco.
Signing up for BESS is easy and doesn't require purchasing special software. All you have to do is log in to your Infinity Internet user console and select Add/Remove Adult Website Filtering under the Account Tools menu.
