| Six
new homes for homeless families officially
opened in Bellevue with the dedication of the Kensington
Square development on June 24. Three families were
expected to move into the just-completed Housing at
the Crossroads project within a week.
The dedication lunch held at the site of the new units
recognized local builders and others in the community
that contributed time and materials to the new development—and
paid special tribute to the Master Builders
Care Foundation and Shea Homes
in leading the construction effort.
Kensington Square consists of one four-unit building
and two single-family units located on NE 8th Street
in east Bellevue. Several of the units have three-bedrooms.
“The Kensington Square project of Housing at
the Crossroads was created to support larger families
of five to seven members,” Housing at the Crossroads
board president Greg Robertson explained to the crowd
of about 100 people who had gathered for the event.
One
of the single-family units is dedicated to the memory
of Darlyne R. Glaze, a founding member of Housing
at the Crossroads.
With the addition of the Kensington Square units,
the Housing at the Crossroads program now owns and
operates 12 units of transitional housing for homeless
families. Counseling services for families that participate
in the program are provided by Kirkland Interfaith
Transitions in Housing (KITH).
